Schooling required for a Graphic Design Degree

A graphic design degree is typically required in order to gain an entry level position in the graphic design field.  Some entry level positions only require an associate level graphic design degree, but most require a bachelor’s.

To obtain a position as a graphic designer, it is also necessary to demonstrate creativity, an ability to problem solve, and strong communication skills.  Familiarity with computer design and graphics software is also a must.  A person interested in pursuing a career as a graphic designer should maintain a portfolio.  The portfolio should include examples of the person’s best graphic design work.  The portfolio is generally the main determining factor when an employer looks to higher a graphic designer.

A bachelor’s level graphic deign degree can be obtained at many private design schools, as well as colleges and universities.  Generally, the curriculum includes principles of design, studio art, commercial graphics production, computerized design, Web site design, and printing techniques.
