A computer software engineer designs and develops new software systems for his or her employer.  The computer software engineer is also called upon to find ways to incorporate changing technology into already existing technological applications in order to create the most current systems possible.  As a result, the computer software engineer’s job constantly changes as technology and the needs of the employer change. 

A computer software engineer must have the ability to apply science, mathematics, and engineering while designing, developing, testing, and evaluating computers systems and new software.  In addition, a computer software engineer may be responsible for designing and developing multiple software programs at one time in order to fulfill different needs.  These can include operating systems, compilers, and network distribution.  The computer software engineer may also develop software for programs executed on the computer.  In all cases, the completion of the job often requires programming and coding of the new software.
